Did you know that Mad Mex has been able to avoid more than 150,000kg of plastic over the past year? We take our sustainability responsibilities seriously, because we know our amigos care greatly about the environment, and we’re delivering.
All of our packaging has been designed to be as sustainable as possible. We work with BioPak, one of the leaders in sustainable packaging, and the annual stats are impressive!
– We’ve offset 148,176 kg of carbon emissions – that’s the equivalent of driving 557,625km in a new car!
– We’ve avoided 151,877 kg of plastic that would otherwise have gone into our packaging.
– We’ve donated 693 meals in partnership with BioPak and non-profit food rescue groups like OzHarvest and KiwiHarvest.
– 58 trees planted – in partnership with Rainforest Rescue and Greenfleet we’ve been able to assist with regrowth, too!
This is in addition to all the good that BioPak does itself. For example, BioPak is a “profit for purpose” business, and contributes five per cent of profits towards the environment and to give back to the community. To date, that fund has raised nearly $4 million.
Why sustainability matters to Mad Mex
Just as we believe in the importance of fuelling your body with the right stuff, so too do we believe in keeping the planet healthy and energised. There are of course plenty of headlines in the media about how urgent it is that we start as a society start to take action on climate change and sustainability, and that’s something we have listened to and taken firmly on board at Mad Mex.
It’s not just that we have partnered with BioPak for sustainable packaging, either. Our commitment to providing vegan flavours that are moreish and authentically Mexican in taste and texture has helped to encourage many fans of Mexican spice to cut back on meat and take the occasional meat-free day. Vegan food has a much lower impact on the environment, so we’re cutting back on carbon emissions there, too.
And we are always on the lookout for ways to do even better, too. Sustainability can’t just be a checkbox item that you tick and forget about. It needs to be core to the way you do everything, from supply chains to waste disposal, and at every Mad Mex, every one of us believes that as the finest Mexican restaurant Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and regional Australia has to offer, we need to take leadership on this.
